Lost John’s: Dome / Sink Chamber
Jack, Denis, Phil
A trip to a less-often visited corner of Lost John’s. A rather more conventional approach to filling tackle bags this time – rope 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 then 5 then 6 (see 15th November 2017 for the results of a less orthodox approach.) Not surprisingly, this made for efficient rigging straight to the bottom of Dome, ignoring the deviation into Dome Junction.
And a short pitch into Shale Cavern – new ground even for Denis who’d only ever visited our destination, Sink Chamber, by way of the wet route. An impressive band of shale.

Final rope down into Sink Chamber to meet the water pouring down from the Monastery route – turn left, and straight into the frothy sump pool – which Denis then discovered to be quite deep!
Just the uphill bit left; but the great thing about Lost John’s is that you and the tackle come out clean!
Which we did, after 3 or so hours spent underground. Another good trip.
